Born on the planet Roshan which is a marine world with scattered volcanic islands. This planet had a thriving fishing and oil export economy but went in sharp decline after the decline of the Rule of Man as it was not near enough other space faring worlds to make it economic to import the delicacies it provided. Only recently added to the fringe of the Third Imperium, many like Alan have been all too happy to leave this now impoverished outpost and seek their fortune within the Imperial domain. Alan has a short childhood, being made to work in the fishing yards repairing nets along with his mother to make ends meet as they never had the income of a father who he never knew. Being resourceful and persistent he managed to secure a place on ship gaining the respect of his shipmates for his determination and optimism in often dangerous waters and also awarding him promotion. Alan is a quite individual who is happy to let the world evolve around him until something goes against his sometimes esoteric values. At such times it is probably not a good idea to get in the way of his temper. Eight years back the Scouting service made contact, and seeing the opportunity to improve his position, Alan applied to get any job he could within the Empire. Initially assigned as postman on a communications vessel he was restless with the monotony of safe space travel. Alan has just been awarded a transfer to a more challenging job in an Exploratory position of the Scouting service.
